On March 16, 2022, at approximately 1:20 pm, Phelps County Deputies responded to the 12000 block of Private Drive 5242, Rolla, Missouri, in reference to a barricaded subject. Upon arrival, deputies learned a bail bondsman attempted to arrest Mitchel P. Light on an outstanding warrant. While trying to take him into custody, it is alleged Light shot a firearm at the bondsman and fled the scene. Responding law enforcement established a perimeter and attempted to locate Light in the rural wooded area without success.

At approximately 6:00 pm, a Phelps County citizen reported suspicious activity in the 11000 block of County Road 5240, near the original incident. The responding deputies were able to locate and arrest Light without incident. Light was placed on a 24-hour at the Phelps County Jail.

On March 17, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued on Light for Assault 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. His bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the following law enforcement agencies for their help; the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Rolla Police Department, Cuba Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and United State Forest Service.

The charges for which Light was arrested are merely accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
