On August 31, at approximately 4:30 am, Central Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting at a residence in the 800 Block of N. Walnut Street in Newburg, Missouri.

Deputies responded and determined a 51-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Medics from Phelps Health treated him at the scene and airlifted him to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

A short time later, deputies located and arrested a suspect, Timothy Edward Eckert, age 42. A warrant was issued for Eckert, charging him with Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Eckert is being held in the Phelps County Jail with NO BOND.

The charges for which Eckert was arrested are merely accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
